Jayson Tatum Injury Update: Celtics Star Doubtful for Game 2 Against Magic
The Boston Celtics’ title defense has hit an early snag, as All-Star forward Jayson Tatum is listed as doubtful for Game 2 of their first-round playoff series against the Orlando Magic. Tatum suffered a right wrist injury late in Game 1 after a hard fall following a flagrant foul by Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.
Although Tatum played through the pain and finished the game with 17 points in 40 minutes, post-game evaluations raised concern. While initial X-rays were negative, an MRI confirmed a bone bruise in his right distal radius. The Celtics medical staff has since placed him on a day-to-day recovery timeline.
Head coach Joe Mazzulla provided a cautious update, noting that while Tatum participated in some light on-court drills, he has not yet been cleared for full contact. His status for Game 2 remains doubtful, leaving the Celtics with a major gap in their lineup.
Tatum’s absence could shift the balance of the series. Despite a strong 103-86 victory in Game 1, Boston has struggled without Tatum, especially against Orlando. The Celtics went 8-2 during the regular season without him—both losses came against the Magic.
With Game 2 looming, Boston will need strong performances from Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, and Jrue Holiday to maintain control of the series. The game is scheduled for Wednesday at 7:00 PM ET.
Stay tuned for further updates as Game 2 approaches.
